Food for thought

I really wanted to do this project, because mental illnesses are very close to my heart. Both my brother and my niece have bipolar disorder and my grandmother suffered from dementia. The thing that I find really hard is society's way of dealing with mental disorders. People think that because mental illnesses mostly don't manifest physically there can't be anything wrong with you.

That's exactly why I wanted to visualise mental illnesses with this project. I took two approaches to this project: first of I visualised what the mental disorders entail and secondly I looked at the words literally. I hope this gives you some food for thought.

Beats & Riffs

Beats & Riffs

Millennails are often described as one of the hardest groups to communicate with, so for the course Copywriting I challenged myself to come up with a communication campaign targeted at those millennials.

First of, I came up with Beats & Riffs, an event agency that organizes music events for millennials who love both elektro and rock music. That contrast is highlighted in the corporate identity of the company, throughout the typography (clean vs grunge), the baseline (because opposites attract) and the icons (a music note, headphones and a guitar neck). Furthermore, the colors refer to youth (green), celebration (orange) and rebellion (black).

One of the biggest events Beats & Riffs organizes is Frozen Solid Fest. It’s an indoor festival aimed at millennails with rock & electro acts that takes place during the winter in Antwerp’s Waagnatie. Since this is quite unique for a music festival, I decided to embrace the winter as a theme for the festival.

AB Concerts

AB Concerts

The Ancienne Belgique is probably the most popular concert hall for contemporary pop and rock music in Belgium, and is definitely one of the leading concert venues in Belgium. When I saw a vacancy for communications assistant at AB Concerts I didn't hesitate to react. From August until September 2015 I replaced the Online Project Manager at venue.

The most important part of the job was e-mailmarketing: composing weekly newsletters, recommendation letters, invitation mails, ...

Additionally, I maintained the website: drafting news items and updating the concerts.

AC/DC Dessel

AC/DC Rock or Bust tour in Dessel

Rock ’n Roll and AC/DC are practically one and the same. When the rock legends announced their much-anticipated Rock or Bust World Tour at the end of last year, they initially didn’t plan for a visit to our little country. Luckily, they did add a Belgian date to their tour in January and that brought the band to Festival park Stenehei in Dessel on July 6.

Since the concert was a collaboration between Live Nation and Graspop Metal Meeting, I had to honour to take care of the social media, develop a blog for the event and write articles for it.

Internship GMM 2015

GMM 2015

Seeing that Graspop Metal Meeting is the place to be for metalheads since 1996, I’m very proud to be part of the festival’s editorial team for three years now. The icing on the cake is of course interning at GMM. During this internship I got the chance to deepen my editorial work. First off, I created a promotional plan for the official GMM compilation album. But I also immersed myself in other areas, for example the productional side of the album.

Another important aspect of my internship was copywriting, especially for social media posts. Organizational-wise I took care of the collaborations with media partners such as Rock Tribune and Skynet. This for example lead to the GMM special of Rock Tribune in May.

The climax of my internship definitely was the festival itself, during which I was responsible for social media, the narrow broadcasting system, the GMM app, the GMM blog and photo editing.

Frozen Solid Fest

Frozen Solid Fest

Frozen Solid Fest is a fictional indoor winter festival at Waagnatie in Antwerp. The festival is aimed at hipsters between the age of 18 and 35 who love both rock and electro. The Hypothermia Stage is the place to be for lovers of solid beats. Young and talented DJ's like Station Earth, Mophito, Lucy Tunes, Goldfox & Gewelt will give it their all behind the turntables. Headliner of the Hypothermia Stage is Green Velvet. Not only did he score a massive hit in 2001 with "La la land" he also played at Tomorrowland, I Love Techno & 10 Days Off.

Fans of shredding guitars are definitely in for a treat at the Frostbite Stage with The Sore Losers, The Rott Childs, The Datsuns & Red Fang. The honor of closing the stage goes to the stoner rockers of Monster Magnet. Calling them a worthy headliner is an understatement, seeing the band already performed at Graspop Metal Meeting, Rock Werchter & Pukkelpop.
